Jennifer Chauhan, Co-Founder & Executive Director, Project Write Now: Transforming Individuals, Organizations, and Communities Through Writing

The Big Idea:

●       Jennifer Chauhan launched Project Write Now to give people of all ages and backgrounds supportive spaces to explore their authentic selves through writing and sharing their stories. She is leveraging decades of education and professional writing experience to help people discover the power and joy of writing.

●       Project Write Now’s fee-based writing classes and workshops are open to everyone (scholarship seats and financial assistance are available). There are a wide range of classes — including memoir, fiction, and poetry — as well as book writing programs. Writers are encouraged to find and develop their unique voices in a supportive community.

●       Project Write Now’s community outreach programs are offered in partnership with schools and mission-based organizations. The programs are geared toward helping underserved youth and adults develop the writing and communication skills needed to achieve academic and professional success, resilience, and personal growth. Some of these programs include weekly writing workshops for AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students at Red Bank Middle School, college essay support at local high schools, workshops for adults living with mental illness, a teacher writing collaborative to inspire teachers, internships and open mics for teens, and much more.

Background:

●       For more than 30 years, Jennifer Chauhan has worked in the education field. As an educational journalist and a public high school teacher, she witnessed firsthand how writing helps students tap into their creativity and connect with others. Jennifer co-founded Project Write Now with Greg Phelan and Allison Tevald to provide writing opportunities to anyone eager to learn.

Fun Fact:

Project Write Now has helped over 100 organizations and nearly 10,000 youth and adults in Monmouth County over the past 10 years and publishes a young adult online literary journal, Bridge Ink.
